Glossary of Common Cold Chain Logistics Terms
A.T.A.: Actual time of arrival.
A.T.D.: Actual time of departure.
ABC analysis: Classification of items in an inventory according to importance defined in terms of criteria such as sales volume and inventory activity based on a percentage, top 20% being "A" which normally encompass the largest share of revenue, followed by "B" products which are the largest majority of products in a particular line of inventory that make up the middle percentage of income and finally the "C" products what are normally the lowest percentage of products that make up the lowest percentage of sales.
Accessorial charges: A carrier's charge for accessorial services such as insurance, lift gate, inside delivery, two man team, crating, packaging, un-packaging, trash removal, stair climber, Certificates of Insurance, Certificates of Origin, Legalizations of Documents, etc.
Agency tariff: A rate bureau publication that contains rates for many carriers.
Agent: An enterprise authorized to transact business for, or in the name of, another enterprise.
Air Cargo: Freight that is moved by air transportation.
Air Carrier: A service provider that offers transportation service via air.
Air Transport Association of America: A U.S. airline industry association.
Air Waybill (AWB): A bill of lading for air transport that serves as a receipt for the shipper, indicates that the carrier has accepted the goods listed, obligates the carrier to carry the consignment to the airport of destination according to specified conditions.
Air Cargo Agent: An agent contracted by a forwarder or airline to aid in the handling and delivery of international airfreight shipments.
Allowable Excursions: Acceptable range in which the product temperatures can reach within a set amount of time that does not compromise the integrity of the product.
Ambient Temperature: The temperature of an outside environment.
